This kid. He’s my little mover and shaker, and I feel like I need to document his changes more often because every day he’s doing something new. This mama doesn’t want to forget how awesome this age is…and it really is awesome.

He runs to extremes — he’s either the happiest/smiliest kid you have ever seen, or he’s so distraught and out of sorts, you would figure his heart was actually breaking in front of you. I love when he learns a new word. His current favourite is “more”. And I’m not so sure it was the best word to teach him because it seems as though he always wants “more”. He eats. And eats and eats and eats. And then when he’s done, he throws any remaining food on his plate onto the floor. And then we try to discipline him, he laughs at us. Every. Single. Time. He’s just like his brother and loves when someone comes to the door. And if I just mention the “O” word — “outside” — he’s running for his shoes and coat.

Oh, Mr. Maguire. Please stop smashing things on your brother’s head and thinking it’s funny. Please stop scaling the furniture in death-defying feats when I turn my back. But please continue to grab a book and sit contentedly by yourself. And please, please, please still need your mama when you bonk your head one too many times and snuggle up on my shoulder. Yes, especially please keep doing that last one. Because your mama knows that all these things, too, will change…

…but the men in my family have a bizarre, inexplicable love for CT. Canadian Tire. When visiting from out of town, there will inevitably be a stop at Canadian Tire at some point during the trip. For what, I’m not entirely sure. Could it be the smell of tires that draws them in?? Or the wide array of sporting goods? Pretty sure it isn’t their firearm display. Maybe it’s the ‘Monopoly’ money you get at the checkout? Or maybe it’s simply that they can buy motor oil and a fireplace and patio furniture all in one store. Whatever the fascination, I’ve discovered that the love of the Tire is most definitely hereditary. On a tip from my Grandma, I made a rare stop at Canadian Tire on the weekend to check out some cookware. I had Maguire with me and upon refusal to sit in a cart, I let him roam free. And roam he did. Heads-up, Gramps, that you’ll have a shopping buddy to go with you next time you’re in town!

My nephew, that is. Logan played a great hockey tournament in Lethbridge recently. And how cool that Fleury was there to take pictures with the kids…although apparently Logan didn’t really know who he was except for the fact that he’s a famous hockey player. Cutie patootie….Logan, that is.

More Cake

Never in the history of the world has another three year old ever had this much cake for one birthday. I think this is cake #47… But I think this one might be my favourite which is why it gets a whole blog post all to itself. Who’s got the next birthday?? I’m up for making it again! Oh, and if you are in the neighbourhood, please stop in for a slice of this one. A BIG cake = LOTS of leftovers.

Lovin’ is Exhausting…

When I asked Jakzen what day it was today, he said “Monday”. Duh. But he quickly got into the swing of Valentine’s Day when he saw there were presents — “Santa brought me Valentine’s!” And then he had his party at school in the afternoon. We stopped and picked up a flower — a “rosy one” — for Miss Jenn and he wanted to hold it from the second we bought it. Which means that it was a little battered by the time it got into Miss Jenn’s hands. Oh well, it’s the thought that counts, right? When I picked him up a couple hours later, it was evident he had a good time…the chocolate smeared across his face gave him away! He was very excited to have a bag full of Valentine’s and could barely wait until after dinner to try the ‘hot lips’ jelly candy (which he hated) and to open up the lollipop. Yup, in his eyes, this Valentine’s Day was a success. (FYI – I think it was a good day, too, thanks to all the extra hugs and kisses I got in the name of Love Day!)

Another telltale sign that the party was a good one — Jak crashed hard on the way home.
