Mother’s Day

I love being a mom. It’s the toughest and most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. Cliche, yes…but true, nonetheless. Isn’t that how all moms feel?? I can’t deny there are days when I wish I was anything but a mom — just for a few hours! — but even on the worst day, something always seems to happen to make it all worth it. Like when Jakzen says “I love you, too” before I’ve had a chance to say “I love you” first. Or when I walk thru the door and Maguire is so excited to see me that he nearly shakes the baby gate off it’s hinges. Or when I see my 2 boys walking with their daddy; happy, content, without a care in the world.

I am very aware of how lucky I am. I have 2 little beings that are teaching me more about patience and perseverance and living in the moment than any other experience leading up to motherhood. And I am incredibly grateful that I have such amazing mom role models in my life. Perhaps I didn’t realize I was learning any lessons when they were being taught, but thank goodness that foundation was there, because I’m calling on that knowledge more and more it seems. So thanks, mom — to you and to all the moms who I aspire to and who inspire me.

You want MORE park photos? Huh. And here I thought you were getting bored with all these playground pics. I’m happy to oblige! We went to yet another new park this weekend, and this time we went with the Deters. Coffee for the grown-ups. A ball for the toddlers. And a nap (no pics!) for the baby. It all added up to fun afternoon!

This guy is such a little dude. And he’s got Spring Fever, big time. Every day, one of the first things he says when he wakes up in the morning is “Outside?” And then when it is finally time to go outside, he goes straight for his toque and his shades — requisites for playing, don’t ya know.

We were at the park by our house today. Unfortunately it’s not super great for kids Jak’s size. Still, he had fun on the swings and his latest playground pastime is throwing rocks. Snapped this shot as he was taking a breather from both activities. Yup, just chilling out, mom.

BIG PICTURE PHOTOGRAPHY – Ten on Tuesday, Party Edition

1. Jakzen turned TWO yesterday, and we’ve had a busy couple days with party after party…after party. Yup, three parties in three days — 2 were for Jak, and one was for Jak’s future wife, Olivia.

2. Party One was on Saturday with Jak’s Calgary grandparents. We wanted to do something low-key, but something we knew he would enjoy. The answer — a trip to the park! (Thanks to auntie erin for suggesting Helicopter Park…it was a hit!)Jak’s favourite part of the park wasn’t the swing. It wasn’t the slide. It wasn’t the merry-go-round. It was a ramp. Yes, you read that right. He spent the majority of our time at the park just going back and forth, up and down the ramp. Crazy kid.

6. We had dinner at our place after our park adventures, and I made sure to have a giant chocolate cupcake for Jakzen for dessert. In preparation for what I assumed would be a messy experience, I stripped him down and plunked him back in his chair, all ready to dive in and get dirty. First, he was unsure what to think of our singing…and even more unsure of the sparkly candle.Once the sparkler had burned out, he picked up the cupcake and we were all ready with our cameras to capture him attacking it with gusto. No such luck. He took one lick, and put it down. Apparently there really is such a thing as too much chocolate…

7. On Sunday, it was Olivia’s birthday. Crazy that this weekend marked her FIRST birthday. Already! She’s such a happy little girl — and a total ham for the camera.

8. Yesterday we had a party with some of Jak’s best buddies…and of course, more cupcakes.

9. Maguire, the party animal.

10. Jakzen got the obligatory cupcake with a candle in it again…and once again, he wasn’t sure what to think.

Thankfully Jak has good friends like Ronan who *tried* to teach him how to blow out the candle.

Jak made a couple feeble attempts at blowing, but in the end, Ronan saved the day and blew out the flame — and Jak was grateful!Of course, Jak didn’t want anything to do with eating the cupcake, and opted instead for a chocolate cookie. Which he LOVED…and his mommy finally got those messy birthday shots she was looking for.

Hayden and Olivia joined us at the park last week. All 3 kids had fun, but with their age differences, they didn’t really play together — each was content to do their own thing.

It was pretty near impossible to get a picture of Hayden. He was on the move the entire time! Busy guy. It’s nothing but warp-speed fun for him! Miss Olivia was on the move, too — just at a bit of a slower pace (for now!), and at the expense of her mama’s back! And yep, Jakzen was moving, too. But he’s not quite sturdy enough to be left alone, yet he definitely doesn’t want his mama’s help. Mr. Independent explored every inch of the park…and was the most mad when it was time to leave!
