Seems as though everyone is talking about how cold it got all of a sudden. And how spoiled we had been weather-wise up until now. And how we can’t wait until Spring. I hear ya. I’m right there with ya. Personally, I’m wishing I spent more time outside last week — you know, when the temperature was closer to zero. Alas, we’re finally in the thick (ice-cube-thick) of winter. When we have to plug in our cars. And let them warm up before we get in ‘em. And dig out all the cold weather gear from the back of the closet. *sigh* How many weeks ’til April??

Bright side = The cold does make for a cool (literal and figurative) wintery cityscape, don’t you think??

My husband got his first ever pair of glasses recently. And now I get to tease him incessantly.

Adventurers

Nick and Monte went out early, early yesterday morning on one of their “trek into the wilderness and see what we can find to take pictures of” adventures. Nick got some good photos, but when I asked him to show me a few, this is the one that stood out. Two guys with cameras, a lot of plaid, a broke down building, and their “pretend to be serious” faces. Yup, that pretty much sums up their photography adventure.

Dad’s Day

I adore my dad. My kids adore my dad. My kids adore my dad’s dad. And my mom’s dad. And their dad’s dads. You could say it runs in the family. What’s not to love about all the super cool dads in our lives?? Dads make pancakes. And have tools. They watch He-Man and love cookies. They wrestle and build forts and do crazy things that moms would never do. Yup, there’s no doubt about it — for so many reasons, the dads in this family are totally, completely adored.

Peaceful…or not

I think these pictures that Nick took recently look kinda dreamy. Quiet. Peaceful. Nick, however, assures me that this particular flight was anything but dreamy. Yes, it was a private plane. And yes, he felt a bit like a rock star that day. But the flight itself was super loud (side effect of a prop plane) and in a small plane like this one, you feel every single bump. My husband is a nervous flier anyway, so I was shocked when I found these pics on his camera card. I thought for sure his hands would be too busy gripping his armrests to take any photos!

This picture came from Nick’s Blackberry. No, that is not his car. He just wishes it was. It belongs to his step-father. My husband is not a manipulative guy, but I just know that whenever he invites his parents up for dinner and says “we’re having take out”, he’s plotting his opportunity to drive this sweet red ride. He waits until Monte is fully engrossed in blocks or books or bouncy balls with the kids…”So, I guess I’ll go pick up dinner…(pause)…Hey, Monte, where are your keys??” and then swipes the keys before Monte even has a chance to answer and he bolts. He took this picture so he could post it on Twitter. Red does look nice on you, darlin’, but if you wanna continue to drive a car like this, you’d better invite Monte to more dinners.

I don’t get it

My husband has always had a fascination with old cars. When he goes out on a photo expedition, he inevitably will come home with some shots of a rusty old car, usually abandoned in a ditch with grass/weeds growing out of strange places — a large hunk of metal transformed into nature’s flowerpot. The older the car, the better. The more abandoned (read: difficult to get to), the better. When we’re on road trips, he makes mental notes of where to find these cars so he can come back solo and shoot away. Don’t get me wrong — I like the end result of these shoots and think the photos look great (we have a set hanging in our upstairs guest bathroom), but the overall fascination is foreign to me. Is it a guy thing? A male photographer thing?? Whatever it is, it’s definitely a Nick thing.
