Jakzen is 43 months old today — 5 months away from the big FOUR. Right now, he’s upstairs, sound asleep. Right now the house is quiet. That will change in a few short hours. Our days are never boring, that’s for sure. Today Maguire was outside and I was calling him thru the window, trying to get him to come inside. Jakzen came over, pushed me outta the way and said, “Mom, let me handle this. I can do this because I’m a big bruzzer (brother).” So he called Maguire, and Maguire came. For him. Not me. And then he was so proud of himself. Just one of the many ways he made me smile today.

He’s quickly leaving the toddler world behind and so super, crazy fast becoming a boy — a full-on likes-to-wrestle, loves-He-man, so-excited-to-try-new-things, busy, sweet, caring, goofy boy. I love seeing things thru his eyes, and even more, I love how his pure enthusiasm for the littlest things forces me to slow down and enjoy ‘em right along with him.

We let the kids loose in the backyard the other day, each with a paint brush and a half a dozen bottles of paint. The idea was to “decorate” our fence in any way they wanted. Jakzen loved it. Maguire, well, this is him from the back……and from the front. Guess I didn’t explain our objective clearly enough. Thank goodness for non-toxic, water soluble Crayola paint.

Snow Day

So, when that big snow storm hit on Saturday, the boys were crazy lucky to spend the day in our backyard with Nana and Grandpa Monte. When we got home, we found the yard transformed. Not only did all the snow in the driveway get shoveled and our car cleared off, but in the back, the yard became a maze of cool dug-out paths, complete with a snow fort! Jak was in HEAVEN. And…I’m pretty sure Grandpa Monte was, too.

I LOVE this picture. Pretty sure Maguire is giving Grandpa Monte a lecture on fort structure or snow velocity or something. LOVE IT.
