Freezing, Frozen, Deep Freeze

Seems as though everyone is talking about how cold it got all of a sudden.  And how spoiled we had been weather-wise up until now.  And how we can’t wait until Spring.  I hear ya.  I’m right there with ya.  Personally, I’m wishing I spent more time outside last week — you know, when the temperature was closer to zero.  Alas, we’re finally in the thick (ice-cube-thick) of winter.  When we have to plug in our cars.  And let them warm up before we get in ‘em.  And dig out all the cold weather gear from the back of the closet.  *sigh*  How many weeks ’til April??

Bright side = The cold does make for a cool (literal and figurative) wintery cityscape, don’t you think??

Santa Photos

The boys were invited to Grandpa Monte’s staff kids’ Christmas party again this year.  They had a blast (it was at the new science centre).  The highlight, of course, was the visit from Santa.  No tears this year!  Maguire was unsure, but sat still while the camera snapped away.  Jakzen waited — very patiently — for his turn to sit on Santa’s knee.  And he knew exactly what to do.  There was zero hesitation when he was asked what he wanted for Christmas.  An e-reader.  Santa said…”um, pardon me??”  Yes, that’s right.  My 3.5 year old wants an e-reader.  *sigh*

Cute sidenote:  Jak’s present from Santa at the party was some Lego.  When he opened it, he said, “I guess Santa is all out of e-readers”.

Shopping sidenote:  Santa wants to get Jakzen the V-Tech Innotab (which Santa will be calling an e-reader…), but everywhere we’ve checked has been sold out.  If you see any, please text/call me!  Santa needs some help.   ;)

Jenn - We got the innotab from best buy...I don't think a lot of people were looking there for one so got lucky. You can order them from Walmart too...As a last resort the people who bought a bunch and marked them up on kijiji and craigs list now are lowering them to get them gone before Christmas, so you could get a prebought new one too-good luck! We just downloaded movies and pictures on it last night...and played the games and uh...yes it is fun for the whole family apparently:)...since we didn't get an ipad... There is one book that it comes with so that should satisfy the e-reader component:)December 23, 2011 - 6:43 am

Mom - Santa's little monkeys! Cute!December 15, 2011 - 3:37 pm

Lindsay - I'll get Santa to check some stores in the US for you ;)December 14, 2011 - 7:21 pm

Amanda - I love that you dress your boys like twins. Am I going to do that too? And I can't beleive the stuff Jakzen says. Keep writing it down! It's gold and always cracks me up. Also - love Santa's belt buckle that says 'Santa'...you know, in case you weren't sure.December 14, 2011 - 3:55 pm

2 Whole Years

My baby turned two today.  We had his “official” party on Friday afternoon with all his buddies, and kept the party rolling that night with some of his grandparents.  He had a great, great day — the best of which was blowing out his candles.  Every time he sees a candle now, he starts blowing.  Cute.

Today, his actual birthday, was all about de-party decorating the house, and getting out all the Christmas stuff.  We worked on some Christmas presents in the morning, and then got out the tree.  Jakzen was a speed decorator, but Maguire was patient.  Very patient.  Well, he kinda had to be — he would get a decoration, hang it on the tree, it would fall to the floor, he’d say ‘uh oh’, pick it up, and try again.  Repeat.  Repeat again.  And again.  But he was so proud of how it looked when it was finished…and although our tree may be a little bottom-heavy this year, it’s our best tree yet.

To cap off our special day, we had our very first Family Movie Night.  Early tub, everyone in their jammies, popcorn, and “The Grinch”.  Half-way thru the movie, Maguire switched spots with his brother and snuggled in right beside me.  I didn’t think he would make it all the way thru the movie, but he just sat and snuggled.  And I totally got all nostalgic as the movie was ending.  Two years ago tonite, Maguire and I were doing the same thing — snuggling.  We were just getting to know each other back then — we’d only been together for a few hours.  And now two years later, I can’t imagine our lives without this amazing little dude.

Maguire, you are funny, tough, rough, sweet, and daring.  You pick on your big brother, but look up to him like no one else.  Although initially shy with new places and faces, you warm quickly and you are always eager to try new things.  You like to eat.  A lot.  And will try most anything — if you have dip.  And your giggle, well, let’s just say it might be my favourite thing.

See?  I know so much more about you now than I did 2 years ago.  But I couldn’t be happier that 2 years later, you are still my little snuggler.  Yes, there was more tickling, wiggling and definitely more popcorn tonite then there was back then…but I counted, and there were exactly the same amount of smooches.  Lots.  So although I’m feeling a bit sad tonite that my baby isn’t much of a baby anymore, I am excited that our first family movie night was a success.  And what’s even better two years later?  Tonite, all those smooches were smooched right back.  Happy birthday, sweet boy.

Amanda - There is something about snow that kids just LOVE. When it started snowing, Rhys looked up to the sky and said 'oh no, mommy! Oh no!", but that evening we couldn't get him to come inside...he was in the yard playing, eating, licking the snow. Wish I'd captured photos like these! They are gorgeous.November 8, 2011 - 4:52 pm
