Costume Reveal ~ Number 3 ~ What’s for Dinner?

I have to admit that I got a smidge bit obsessed about Maguire’s costume. I had this idea a longggggg time ago and so my search began. Kijiji. Ebay. Etc., Etc. I found plenty of costumes, but a lot of cheap looking ones and none that were cheap ($$). I kept going back to this one site. It had the best one. So I bit the bullet (and so did my credit card). But I’m SOOOO glad I did! I LOVE this costume. Ridiculous, I know, for a kid that doesn’t even know/care about Halloween. But I’m a sucker. And, hey, I figure it’s educational…it’s teaching him about his Nova Scotia heritage, right? A convincing argument? A wee bit of a stretch? Perhaps.

Bottom line = I think he is adorable in this costume. So cute, I could eat him up!

Costume Reveal ~ Number 2 ~ Up, Up & Away!

Jakzen has 2 costumes. This is the first. Picked it up a long time ago when he and Nick were watching the retro cartoon channel and Jak began his obsession with Superman. Unfortunately we realized too late that Superman isn’t a regular program on that station…oops. Try explaining that to a 2 1/2 year old!

He wore this costume to school on Thursday. He got icing all over it when they decorated cupcakes. He doesn’t like the straps that go under his feet. He likes showing off his muscles. He’ll only wear the cape when it’s attached to the costume. And he has no idea how cute I think he looks as a superhero.

BIG PICTURE PHOTOGRAPHY – Ten on Tuesday??

While doing our Halloween session this past weekend, I was peer pressured into shooting some belly shots. It was my intention when I was pregnant the first time to have some taken — during the FULL MONTH I was supposed to have off before Jakzen arrived, but, well, Jak squashed those plans and I think other than one shot that my mom took at Christmas, there is no actual photographic evidence that I was ever pregnant with him. So when the opportunity presented itself on the weekend to document Baby#2, I needed a little arm twisting, but I succumbed without too much persuasion…if only for the sole reason of having pregnancy PROOF this time ’round!

This was sooooo hard for me. I really don’t like being in front of the camera. I enjoy being behind-the-scenes (especially for maternity shoots!) and getting the mamas to turn just right, and smile just right, and be their beautiful selves just right. To take all that away from me by putting me in front of the camera?? Oy. Thankfully there was a truckload of help here to ease my pain. Kara did my make-up, of course, and I had to do a double-take when I looked in the mirror — was that really me staring back at me?? Jen had dropped in for a visit, and although we hadn’t officially recruited her to help, she took it upon herself to entertain Jak — which turns out we desperately needed. And then Nick, of course, had some ideas of what he wanted to do and managed to get me to cooperate somehow — a daunting task, indeed.

And now…the result…

Now if me and my “entourage” can make me look this good, just imagine what we can do for you! FYI – I prefer the first shot, but figured I needed to include a smiley one, too — you’re welcome, Mom.

And, ok, so perhaps I’m not a Ten out of 10. But definitely a solid 7.5, if I do say so myself!

BIG PICTURE PHOTOGRAPHY – Good Morning

How do I know my husband really, really loves photography?? Because, of his own free will, he got up at 5a on Monday morning and drove out to Elbow Falls to catch the sunrise over the water. While I was still snug as a bug in bed, Nick and his step-dad were climbing rocks in search of the perfect angle and the best light. I think he found both!

Another of Nick’s photo shoot creations. Delicious, no?? The martini glass – a wedding gift. The blue liquid – water with food colouring (sorry – does that ruin the effect?). The orange – the second attempt at cutting it properly. Good thing Nick bought 2! He cut the first orange the wrong way, and it’s funny how much you need to see the segments for it to look “right”. Oh, and the ice cube? Yep, you guessed it. Frozen water.

Nick has lived in this city his whole life…and he’s a camera guy…so it’s no wonder that he knows all the best places to get great shots of downtown. Love it when he comes home with little gems like these!!

BIG PICTURE PHOTOGRAPHY – Out for a drive

Nick worked the late(r) shift yesterday. He got in the door at 7:30p, and sat down for about 30 seconds before he announced that he wanted to go for a drive and take some pictures. So he phoned Ralph and a half-hour later, he was back out the door and on the road. I’m not sure how far they got, but they musta had a good time since Nick didn’t get home until after 11p!

I suppose the nice thing about being so close to the city limits is that the country really isn’t that far away. And that means finding scenes like this ain’t too hard to do! Glad Nick took the time to capture how pretty it can be around here this time of year.
