BIG PICTURE PHOTOGRAPHY – Name Game

Do you think I’m weird??  Do I have strange/unusual taste or something?  I didn’t think I was necessarily more ‘out there’ than the next person…so why is it that everyone (namely my mother*!) is so concerned/worried/panicking about what we’re going to name Baby#2??  Although perhaps the spelling of Jakzen is a bit unorthodox, I didn’t think the name was all that crazy.  We did good the first time (right??), so why the concern (again!) the second time ’round?

Olwyn’s top 2 choices so far (because apparently Nick told her we were looking at “K” names) are Kingston and Kade.  I like both names, however I already know 2 sweet little boys with each of these names.  That strikes them off the list.

My mom continues to send her thoughts via email.  Her latest list:  Chase, Cash, Chance, Denver, Gage.  Chance, Mom??  And Denver?!?  (No offence to the Chances and Denvers out there that might be reading this…)  Keep ‘em coming, Mom!  At the very least, your lists are entertaining.  :)

erin, however, wins the award for “Most Creative” potential names.  Here is the list she emailed to me yesterday:  Juice, Flow, 10-4, Asteroid, Phoenix, Felix, Red, Rudder, Derick, Rick, Rice, Road, Farrington, Ashmore, Ashton, Applebee’s, Panorama, Daniel, Street, Pavement, Pierre, Pieter, Yodeler, Yale, Vale, Victor, Torrent, Love, Adventure, Music, and Baby.  I particularly like the sounds of Rudder Blakeney and Yodeler Blakeney.  Catchy.  Ooh!  How about Catchy Blakeney???

Regardless of my reaction (Mom!), I welcome any suggestions anyone might have.  It’s a daunting process coming up with a name that another human being will live with for life.  Heavy stuff.  I promise to review any submissions carefully…if perhaps only briefly.

*Note: in all fairness, my mother’s concern might not totally be unwarranted…after all, the most recent names I taunted her with were Viper and Venom.  I wasn’t serious, Mom!

Jenn - I think I vote "Rice" Who doesn't like Rice??? I have a friend who named thier baby Nicholas Jr. after his father but they call him Chol (cole)??? Eh...eh??? Do I win???!!! Gotta admit, catchy and original AND original spelling! My mom and I were wondering just yesturday when she told me you learned you were expecting another boy (yaaaa!) not only what you would name your new baby as well but also how it would be spelled...you have sparked international conversation!July 25, 2009 - 7:37 pm

Nicole - I saw a realtor sign with the name Ulkira Something-Or-Other on it! ULKIRA? REALLY?! Bizarre. I know you guys will come up with just the perfect name. Wish I could tell you what is on our list only we haven't even begun to start thinking about that yet. Palmer was hard enough to come up with!July 25, 2009 - 3:31 pm

kara - I like that a lot of erin's names seem to be found while driving?! Like Applebee's. Or maybe she was hungry?! I, too, like Gage.... but will he get mis-called gag?? Maybe I'm thinking about your previous post. I REALLY like Thijs (channel your inner Dutch-ness - pronounced Tys, like the start of Tyson.) It's still up for grabs 'cause I'm not having anymore babies!!July 24, 2009 - 1:53 pm

Christine - Go with Gage - its my personal favorite!!!July 24, 2009 - 12:05 pm

Mom and Dad - Will you please stop associating with that girl, Erin, until after the baby is named!!!! Juice and Flow??????? I am really worried now!!!!!! Viper and Venom are mild compared to some of "her" choices!!!!! How did you manage to have such nice names for your sons, Erin? I can just feel the grey hairs popping out.....July 24, 2009 - 11:50 am

Kristi - LOL! I'm sure you aren't having any fun tormenting our mother! I have always, always loved the name Cameron for a boy. I guess, since there are no more boys coming from me, I could pass it along. I'll keep my ears open for any cool names!July 24, 2009 - 10:32 am

Shawna - I found naming the baby to be one of the most difficult tasks, as well. I like Pieter, with the "i". Good choice, Erin.July 24, 2009 - 10:31 am
